LIBRARY PROJECT

On 25th of August 2024 we are Dr Sam Foundation really proud to announce that we had completed the task of building and designing the library. As you can see from the photographs this was a community project and the school staff and students were an integral part of this. For some time we had collected books as donations from all over the world, but it was a real love to separate the books and notarise them and take an itinerary. Please Luckily, the school has a librarian, Miss Niventhana Thillainathan. Site from the ICT role, the library is one of the only buildings that is fully air-conditioned. As in all of the classrooms it has a whiteboard. The children are free to borrow books as long as it is entered in the record book and returned. It is also run where we can have parent-teacher meetings and where the President consolidates English learning. It is all experience that ensures the provision of systematic and high-quality English particularly to the nursery and primary years is likely to lead to enhanced learning and results at the O-level stage. Very regrettably a number of years have been affected by Covid which led to a regression in overall education. We need to raise $5000 US Dollars as a matter of urgency so that we can furnish the library with a number of desks, chairs and add computers. Then we can maximize our utilization of the building. We have had a generous donation of books what we really need our funds to buy books for different school years at different levels as well as exciting non-fiction books that will excite the imagination of younger readers. One of the biggest problems that we have in respect of the provision of English teaching is that many children have limited the vocabulary. It difficult to consolidate learning at home because often parents may not have wifi let alone a phone. If we have interesting books, then there is a greater likelihood that children will want to read either in English or in Tamil or Singhalese.
One of the biggest obstacles that children in Paranthan and other areas is that university education in many subjects is in the English medium. Whereas subjects such as ICT are taught in Tamil. this place is our children at a considerable disadvantage from the outset is reconsider it important to use a variety of learning tools to engage the attention of the children. So not just books, but also power points and laptops. if they had access to laptops then they could access interactive learning and we could expand the provision of zoom classes so that students, particularly those remedial groups, can be taught by members of the diaspora on a one-to-one basis. Your donations would have such a profound impact here because we could literally transform the lives of children and later adults in this community we are very happy to say that we have seen students who have studied here, graduate and then return here to teach.
